MANILA, Philippines- UPLB student Stephen Villena made headlines this week after the video of his controversial discourse with presidential candidate and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte during a UPLB academic forum held on Friday, March 11 spread like wildfire on social media.

Shortly after the video went viral, Villena earned negative comments particularly from supporters of Duterte. However, a report by PulitikaPilipinas claimed that a certain supporter of the tough talking mayor even went to the extent of issuing a death threat to Villena on social media. As of this writing, the article has been taken down.

Netizen EJ Neri is allegedly circulating a photo of a tomb with Stephen Villena’s name encrypted on it. In a lengthy Facebook post, Villena said that the video which circulated on social media did not show the full exchange between him and Duterte.

In fact I only wanted to accomodate his wish to finish the Q&A portion of the forum asap. The end result was that the people who only saw the shortened video but did not participate in the forum somehow got the impression that I was bastos, arrogante, walang modo.”

Towards the end of his open letter, Villena pointed out that he is not a blood relative of any candidate running for the national office. Moreover, he denied having connections with the children of Liberal party vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo. -Mini, The Summit Express

The Q&A started past 5:00 p.m.

But after answering three questions from a student who asked about 'lumad killings,' from USC and Perspective representatives, Duterte said he really needs to go. A male student pleaded for the candidate to spare more time to answer queries.

"I would like to appeal Mayor Duterte in behalf of the students behind the line kung pwede lang pong sumagot ng a few more questions lang po because it is quite rare for us students here to meet a presidential candidate. We really want to know you," he said while the crowd cheered.

Duterte refused, explaining that he needed to leave because the helicopter waiting for him can only travel before sunset.

Stephen Villena was the fourth student who gave question to Duterte. Iwayama clarified his question is about how Duterte will implement peace and order in the counrty without sacrificing the budget for Education.

WATCH: UPLB student allegedly disrespects Duterte, earns mixed reactions

Here's the full story as recalled by UPLB student:

"WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE DUTERTE FORUM

Kung ganito man, saan niya kukunin ang budget for heightened militarization?

Maraming Salamat Po.

Meanwhile, UPLB has no official statement yet on the controversial Duterte forum.

It clearly shows that her previous presidential campaign during the 1992 and 1998 elections were majorly youth-driven. Albeit failing twice, she remained as a one of the enigmatic figure in the senate as shown on her successive elections to the congress excluding the 2001 senatorial elections. Now that she is giving another shot for the presidency while recovering from sickness, she’s banking on the power of her social media army to finally end the saga of her quest for the presidency on a high note.

Amidst the controversies, will Escudero maintain his hold until May 2016?

We’ve known how the 2010 vice presidential derby was fought by Binay and Roxas. Roxas was leading the surveys until his supporters were caught by surprise on how Binay slowly but surely climbed his way on top, eventually tossing out Roxas on election day.

Escudero is at the top, thanks to his calm and straightforward articulateness with the Filipino language and of course, by Poe’s charisma that secured him to where he is now.

But with the administration backing Robredo, Cayetano and Marcos being under the two of the most colorful and charismatic presidential candidates, the words ‘Vice President’ cannot be owned yet by Escudero as early as of this time.

- Michael Santiago/TheSummitExpress
