Nevertheless, it was still a high mountain to climb for Gilas Pilipinas in facing Indonesia in the SEA Games Men’s basketball finals.<br /><br />Gilas Pilipinas had a bad night from the outside yesterday against Singapore. But tonight, Von Pessumal officially opened the finals showdown from the three point territory followed by Christian Standhardinger’s back-to-back two pointers.<br /><div id="unruly-unit"></div><br />Indonesia kept the game close through the impeccable court vision and leadership of ABL veteran Mario Wuysang. 12-9 in favor of Philippines with 5 more minutes remaining in the opening quarter.<br /><br />Indo-American Arky Wisnu beat Kiefer Ravena and Troy Rosario off transition to claim the lead for the very first time. Carl Cruz however, drained a timely trey to bring the lead back to Gilas’ side.<br /><br />Philippines’ barely survived the 1st period with a slim 4-point, 19-15 lead.<br /><br />Both squads struggled to score baskets in the early phase of the 2nd quarter. Standhardinger initiated the attack midway of the second to post Philippines’ first double-digit, 30-17 lead. Notably, Gilas blitzed for 11-2 scoring run to improve its performance.<br /><br />Mike Tolomia and Kiefer Ravena started to rain triples to surpass Philippines’ poor outside shooting against Indonesia in the semifinals. Tolomia alone matched Gilas’ total 3-pointers yesterday with 3.<br /><br />Troy Rosario’s put back slam off Kobe Paras’ missed free throw ended the 1st half big time. 45-27 in favor of Gilas Pilipinas. <br /><br />Gang rebounding was Gilas’ key to success in the 1st half at least that gave them a good margin. The nationals sustained it at the start of the 2nd half to maintain their lead.<br /><br />A controversy occurred in the 6th minute of the third. Christian Standhardinger got fouled in the act of shooting and was awarded with free throws. The Fil-German made the first attempt but Indonesia quickly inbounded the ball and rushed to their goal. To Philippines’ surprise, the referees missed to give Standhardinger his 2nd foul shot. Despite the misfortune, Gilas still enjoyed a 20-point lead.<br /><br />Good ball distribution was Philippines’ bread and butter in this game along with less turnovers. On the other hand, Indonesia was hit hard by bad luck as all players missed multiple shots.  The Indonesians only scored 7 points in the 3rd quarter with 8 minutes gone by since the 2nd half started.<br /><br />After 30 minutes of lopsided basketball, Philippines brought a 29-point, 68-39 lead to the final 10 minutes of the ballgame.<br /><br />Indonesia literally needed a miracle in order to upset Philippines with just a full quarter to go. Indonesian Coach Wahyu Widayat Jati sensed that a comeback is almost impossible with his team downed by 30 plus points, so he opted to rest his superstars Mario Wuysang and Arki Wisnu and let the supporting cast finished the game.<br /><br />Coach Jong Uichico did a great job in containing deadly Mario Wuysang and limited the guard to just 2 points. In the absence of Wuysang, Sandy Kurniawan took the helm and single-handedly moving Indonesia’s digits.<br /><br />It was all Kobe Paras in the final canto. The young Paras made the crowd crazy as he displayed thunderous and emphatic dunks. The Filipinos cheered “Kobe! Kobe!” relentlessly as a sign of amusement and applause to the high-flying forward.<br /><br />As the final horn echoed in the entire MABA stadium, Gilas Pilipinas swept the tournament and dismantled Indonesia to the tune of 94-55. Along with this, Philippines Men’s Basketball Team bagged its 17th gold medal in Southeast Asian Games history.<br /><br />Congratulations, Gilas Pilipinas! Your countrymen are so proud of you! Liew scored 5 more points to cut the Gilas’ margin to just 3, 15-12 after the first 10 minutes of the game.<br /><br />High-flyer Kobe Paras who played excellent basketball in the last 2 games started the 2nd period with a breakaway tomahawk dunk followed by an acrobatic layup to increase Philippines’ lead to 20. <br /><div id="unruly-unit"></div><br />Singapore’s superstar, Wong Wei Long took over the scoring chores and initiated his team’s comeback and made Gilas scoreless in the last 4 minutes. <br /><br />Philippines’ shooting percentage drastically went down even from the charity stripes. Coach Jong Uichico wasn’t happy on his team’s 2nd quarter performance as he called a mandatory time out after Singapore caught up 22-21.<br /><br />Team Captain Kiefer Ravena broke the ice as he scored an and-one to wakeup Gilas from a long hibernation. Kwek became a major problem for Team Philippines as he continued to drain more baskets whether from the inside or from the outside and managed to trim the lead 49-42 as the penultimate quarter closed.<br /><br />Miscues and turnovers hurt Philippines too much as the nationals began their final push in the final quarter. Singapore on the other hand was blessed with multiple open and unguarded shots to close the gap 51-46 with 7:57 remaining in the game clock.<br /><br />If there was one thing missing in this game for Gilas Pilipinas, it was its three point shooting prowess. At around 1 am on August 20, Dindo unknowingly dropped his money while taking his phone out of his pocket. He then proceeded inside a McDonald’s branch in Sta. Maria, Bulacan to order food for his family.<br /><br />But before he could even place his order,  Andrey called him to tell him that he actually dropped his money amounting to P7,000. Such amount could have tempted anyone, but Andrey said he didn’t have second thoughts on returning it for the simple reason that it wasn’t his money.<br /><div id="unruly-unit"></div><br />To reward his honesty, Dindo gave Andrey cash, which the latter would give his mother. Salvador, a 39-year-old man with disability, sells buko salad and ice candy in order to earn a living and even send himself to school.<br /><br />In a viral Facebook post Maryjane Mayo Zosa, she revealed that she often encounters Salvador, who lives in Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City, peddling products everyday to earn an honest living. Despite having a disability, Salvador not only supports himself but is also chasing his dreams by going to school. This prompted the robber to hurriedly escape but he unfortunately ended up getting his head caught in between the metal grills of a window.<br /><br />Although it took hours before the teen was rescued, he didn’t sustain any serious injuries. In addition, no property was stolen from the house.<br /><br />Several photos showing the akyat-bahay’s head stuck in the metal railings of a window while he stands on the rails of a ladder while he was trying to escape have gone viral on social media.<br /><div id="unruly-unit"></div><br />While many think that the robber, who is now under the custody of the barangay police, deserved what he got, others felt pity for him because he was somehow violated. Some photos show him wearing only a shirt and an underwear, suggesting that people in the scene may have taken off his clothes to take revenge and shame him.<br /><br />Check out some of the netizens’ comments.<br /><br /><i>“Posting this just to earn likes and entertain others is one of the stupidest things to do. There’s nothing funny about it unless if you people are stupid enough to laugh at this situation. This is inhumane. Yun ang motibo na naghanap talaga ako ng 1971,” </i>Roel revealed.<br /><div id="unruly-unit"></div><br />Upon learning that the coin will bring him fortune, Roel, a buyer and seller of old coins, decided to look for it. In 2015, he was able to purchase this type of coin for P10,000.<br /><br />Roel’s cousin John, not his real name, served as the middle man for transactions. Although many expressed interest in buying the coin, no one really bought it. Most of them only took pictures of the coin.<br /><br />The cousins believe that they had been used people who posed as buyers who used the photos to scam other people.<br /><b><br /></b> <b>Real or fantasy?</b><br /><br />In order to verify if the rare P1 coin really exists, the staff of KMJS consulted several experts. <br /><br />Boyet Manuel of the Philippine Numismatic and Antiquarian Society believes that the P1 coin owned by Roel has been manipulated as it is thinner compared to regular coins issued in 1972 and 1974. He believes that the coin was just made by a medal maker.<br /><br /><i>“Ang orihinal supposed to be nakalagay ang seal ng Republika ng Pilipinas, nakalagay yung katagang Bangko Sentral, nakalagay yung date sa pagitan ng Bangko Sentral. Sayo nakalagay yung tinatawag nateng Noli Me Tangere, which is yung librong sinulat ni Jose Rizal,”</i> Manuel explained.  <br /><br />Meanwhile, Maja Gratia Malic, Deputy Director of Currency Issue and Integrity Office of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) verified that such coin wasn’t issued by the BSP.<br /><i><br /></i> <i>“Sa record ng Bangko Sentral wala tayong maipakita na ito ay nanggaling sa Bangko Sentral. I can’t find it sa aming website, wala din sa aming collection, wala din sa money museum namin. <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">PEURTO PRINCESA, Philippines - The proposed Nickelodeon underwater theme park in Coron will no longer materialize as Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) revealed that it will no longer pursue the construction of said tourism infrastructure.<br /><br />On Tuesday, August 22, VIMN said in a press statement that it will “discontinue the IP licensing agreement” of the proposed project. In fact, several environmental, conservation, civil society organizations as well as the Tagbanua Tribes of Coron Island Association, Incorporated (TTCIA) highly opposed the planned artificial attraction. <br /><br />Moreover, several environmentalists gathered more than 263,000 signatures in an online petition against the undersea park.<br /><br />Just a month ago, Greenpeace Philippines urged VIMN to drop the project and end its partnership with project developer Coral World Park (CWP). The organization accused CWP to have “no historical background of any conservation effort anywhere else in the Philippines.”<br /><br />While VIMN has already abandoned the project partnership with CWP, AA Yaptinchay of Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines said they will be vigilant in case the project developer finds another partner. <br /><br />“It’s not wise to partner with Coral World Park at this moment because Nickelodeon already abandoned that kind of partnership, so the [project] could not be revived anymore,” Yaptinchay explained.<br /><br /><b>-- Mini, The Summit Express</b></div>
