MANILA, Philippines - 'Bagyong Jolina' (international name: Pakhar) has weakened further after crossing the rugged terrain of Northern Luzon and is now over the western coast of Ilocos Norte, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 8:00 a.m. update on Saturday, August 26, 2017.
'Jolina' is expected to exit in the northwestern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight.
At 7:00 a.m. today, the center of Tropical Storm 'Jolina' was estimated based on all available data at 75 km West Southwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (17.9 °N, 120.0 °E).
'Jolina' has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 20 kph.
Forecast Positions:
Tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) No. 2 (61-120kph expected in 24 hrs) was raised in two areas: Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
Signal No. 1 #1 (30-60kph expected in 36 hrs) is up over La Union, Apayao, Isabela, Quirino, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Abra and Nueva Vizcaya.
The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.
Meanwhile, monsoon rains is expected over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon, while light to moderate with possible occasionally heavy rains due to thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of Luzon. Residents in these areas, as well as those under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals 2 and 1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon.
