A total of 6,836 out of 14,322 passed the examinations. University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Benguet State University - La Trinidad topped the schools with 100% passing rate. Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) - Lucban and Saint Louis University (SLU) were among the top performing schools. SLU graduate Eric Carolino Jacinto and UST's Faith Calzado Rutagines topped the board with identical average grade of 86.60%.<br /><br />In the November 2015 exams, results were out online in twenty-four (24) working days. PRC named 9,114 out of 18,500 who have passed the tests. UST, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) - Batac and Xavier University got 100% passing rate. Alyssa Claire Anguren Almo from Remedios T. You know it’s a good Eagle basketball when a non-shooter big man like Chibueze Ikeh takes a three pointer and makes it.<br /><br />La Salle fought back and managed to trim the lead to just 4 but Ateneo stopped Archers’ run as soon as Isaac Go and Aaron Black stepped in the court and pushed the ball to the basket to bring the margin back to a double-digit.<br /><br />ADMU successfully maintained the lead at the end of the opening quarter, 24-14.<br /><div id="unruly-unit"></div><br />2-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) Ben Mbala spent the half of the 1st period on the bench to preserve his energy. But as soon as he re-entered the court in the beginning of the 2nd quarter, La Salle all of a sudden stepped up its game and immediately tied the game at 25.<br /><br />Anton Asistio and Thirdy Ravena combined their efforts to grow their lead once again. But Aljun Melecio started to heat-up from the outside to counterattack Ateneo.<br /><br />Ateneo bigs Raffy Verano, Isaac Go and guard Anton Asistio broke the 4th deadlock of the game and wrapped up the 1st half with a narrow 7-point, 45-38 lead.<br /><br />Compared to the last game where Ateneo lost the will to win in the early phase of the third quarter, the Blue Eagles were full of energy this time. However, La Salle tried to replicate its excellent scoring run in the same quarter in game number 2 where it erased Ateneo’s 19-point lead. Archer Santi Santillan became La Salle’s main man as it started the third.<br /><br />DLSU took the lead for the first time with Ricci Rivero’s seamless trey but it was just momentarily as Raffy Verano also sank a triple.<br /><br />Ricci Rivero for the second straight time obtained his 4th personal foul. But before he was pulled out by Coach Aldin Ayo, he wowed the crowd with a baseline dunk and gave the lead back to his team, 62-59.<br /><br />Both squads gave the fans and patrons a very good game. It was a pure thriller as the penultimate quarter ended in another deadlock, 66-all.<br /><br />Coach Ayo gambled on Ricci Rivero and sent the wingman back with plenty of time left in the final period. Aside from Rivero, Ben Mbala was also nursing his 3rd personal foul. <br /><br />Ateneo guards Matt Nieto and Anton Asistio came back strong with a back-to-back long bombs for the instant 74-68 lead. Coach Ayo didn’t waste any time to burn a timeout to extinguish the hot shooting hands of the Blue Eagles.<br /><br />ADMU bursted an 8-0 run and had most of the boards, 9-3, as the 5-minute mark of the fourth approached. DLSU on the other hand, kept on shooting blanks. Ricci Rivero ended La Salle’s dry spell as he completed his foul shots.<br /><br />Ateneo matched its biggest lead of the game with 10 with 3:33 left. Thirdy Ravena had a terrific night as he led the last period onslaught. 80-70 in favor of the Blue Eagles.<br /><br />Aljun Melecio made a three pointer to cut the lead to just 7 with 2 minutes remaining in the game. However. Ben Mbala committed his 4th personal foul but refused to leave the floor to keep on fighting and hoped to save La Salle from a painful exit.<br /><br />La Salle made it to a one-possession ballgame, 82-80 with 48 seconds left with Andrei Caracut’s three points.<br /><br />Isaac Go, the Atenean hero against FEU in the semis, once again made a timely rainbow shot to make the Eagles’ lead to 5, 85-80. Go spared La Salle with one-full shot clock.<br /><br />The Green Archers had a chance to lessen the gap with a trey but it missed and recovered by the Blue Eagles. Coach Tab Baldwin, called a timeout to secure his team’s final possession with 15 ticks remaining in the ballgame.<br /><br />Andrei Caracut fouled Anton Asistio after the inbound play. The latter split his charities but gave Ateneo a two-possession lead, 86-80.<br /><br />Clearly, La Salle opted for a quick 3 and Aljun Melecio made it with 5 seconds left. Matt Nieto went to the line after getting fouled and completed his foul shots, 88-83. <br /><br />Kib Montalbo hit the last shot from behind the arc and it went it. In addition, SC has no way of knowing if the examinees fell ill or were simply overwhelmed by fear of the grueling tests.<br /><br /><b>COVERAGE OF EXAMINATIONS</b><br /><br />The 2017 bar exam was headed by Committee Chairman Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin and the eight (8) examiners for each bar subjects.<br /><br />The examinable subjects are: Political Law and Public International Law (15%), Labor and Social Legislation (10%), Civil Law (15%), Taxation (10%), Mercantile Law (15%), Criminal Law (10%), Remedial Law (20%) and Legal and Judicial Ethics (5%). <br /><br />Examinees were tasked to answer open-ended questions in long hand. Those questions, carefully selected by the committee, are formulated to test analytical ability, facility in expression in terms of written argument, comprehension of basic principles of law, and grasp of jurisprudence.<br /><br /><b>2017 BAR EXAM PASSING PERCENTAGE</b><br /><br />While a bar examinee is “deemed to have passed his examinations successfully if he/she has obtained a general average of 75%,” the SC en banc has always retained for itself (based on its authority to amend the Rules) the discretion to make adjustments, as it did in the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Bar Examinations to lower the bar exam passing percentage.<br /><br />In 2012, the Bar exam committee lowered the passing average to as low as 70%. In 2013 and 2014, the highest court lowered the passing grade to 73% in view of the structure of the results, the difficulty the candidates encountered with the MCQ portion of the exam, and in light of past precedents.<br /><br />Meanwhile, the standard passing grade of 75% was kept for the 2015 and 2016 examinations. Section 14, Rule 138 of Revised Rule of Court added that there should be no grade falling below 50% in any bar subject.<br /><br /><b>2017 BAR EXAM OFFICIAL RELEASE</b><br /><br />The results of the 2015 and 2016 were both released on the first week of May the following year (specifically both May 3).<br /><br />The Bar Examiners committee manually checked the test papers which caused the long waiting period of about five (5) months.<br /><br />While there's no announcement yet on the exact release of results, the Office of the Bar Confidant (OBC) is tasked to release the 2017 Official List of Successful Bar Examinees, expected anytime in April to May 2018.<br /><br />Traditionally, the full list of successful bar examinees will be flashed on a widescreen at the Supreme Court front yard and simultaneously be viewed at the official website of the high court.<br /><br /><b>2017 BAR EXAM UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS</b><br /><br />Prior to the official release of list of passers and topnotchers, reliable sources give some hints on the possible date of release of the results. Specifically, the Supreme Court and the personnel related to the administration of the bar exam are sharing information of the special en banc leading to the release of results mid-day of the schedule.<br /><br />Same with the previous examinations, The Summit Express will provide immediate and live updates on this page and our social media accounts in time for the announcement of results.<br /><br /><b>PHILIPPINE BAR EXAM OVERVIEW AND HISTORY</b><br /><br />The Philippine bar examinations, dubbed as the most prestigious professional licensure exam in the country for aspiring lawyers, is the only professional exam not handled by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). It is exclusively supervised by the Supreme Court.<br /><br />The SC conducts the Bar examinations pursuant to Article VIII, Section 5 of the Constitution which provides that it shall have the power to promulgate rules governing the admission to the practice of law.<br /><br />Some Filipino lawyers say the bar exam is tough because it is centralized on eight bar subjects, with the expected annual passing rate of 20% to 30%.<br /><br />Special en banc session for the 'decoding of bar exam results' is being done morning prior to the release of results. Decoding is the process where the SC orders the OBC to open the sealed envelopes with the names of the candidates who passed the exams.<br /><br />From 2000 to 2006, the Bar exam passing rate exceeds 30% three times (in 2001, 2004, and 2006). After that, the passing rates saw a decline, with the rate going as low as 20.26% in 2010.<br /><br />However, the following year, in 2011, the passing rate suddenly increased to more than 30 percent (31.95%). This was the year the SC introduced multiple-choice questions (MCQ) in the exams.<br /><br />For two years, results for MCQs weighed more (60 percent) than the results for essay questions (40 percent). But unlike in the 2011 results, the 2012 passing rate plummeted to a 12-year low of 17.76%.<br /><br />The following year, in 2013, the high court decided to change the Bar exam rules anew. This time, essay questions were made to weigh more (80 percent) than the MCQ (20 percent). That year, the passing rate recovered (22.18) but still far from the 30-percent mark in the early 2000s.<br /><br />The 2014 exam also resulted to a low passing rate of 18.82% while a big jump was saw in 2015 having 26.21% , the the sixth highest since 2001 which had a 32.89 percent.<br /><br />Last year, a record-breaking 59.06% passing rate was hit (3,747 out of 6,344 examinees). This was a historic high for at least 30 years. Reports said that 2016 Bar Chairman Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr was more "reasonable" as "points were given to answers, even if the positions taken may not exactly be the right answer."<br /><br />In an unprecedented turnout, all topnotchers in the in the last year's bar exam came from the provincial law schools, dominating the usual top performing NCR-based schools. In addition, "all available municipal government vehicles including barangay service vehicles will be used to serve and pick-up stranded commuters. Upon investigation, Senior Inspector Hercules Trigue, deputy chief for administration of Bago City Police Station said that the approaching 10-wheeler truck swerved on the car’s lane. The driver of the truck Herman Mahometano, 58 lost control of the truck until it fell on its side and hit the car.<br /><div id="unruly-unit"></div><br />The car was in total wreck and it took 30 minutes for the rescuers to retrieve the bodies. They had to request for a crane from a construction company to move the truck.<br /><br />Trigue added that Mahometano was unharmed but tried to escape. He eventually surrendered and is now detained at the police station. The overly-cute millennial type of love story just does not work with Cuneta and Padilla, not because they do not have any chemistry, but because it’s jarring that these two grown-ups act as if they are in their teens. The dialogs tend to be inappropriate, borderlining cringeworthy. And instead of developing a well-balanced story by highlighting the relationships of all the people across the board, “Unexpectedly Yours” focused its energy too much in making its veterans more like kids dabbling on the idea of first love.<br /><br />While the movie attempts to destigmatize mid-life crisis, it does it in an insensitive way. Patty’s weight and reaching menopausal stage were hammered way too much in the movie, to the point that despite being presented as humorous, it is almost a hurtful insult sugarcoated as a joke. The impact is no way diminished by having her acknowledge the same thing in a self-deprecating way, only made worse by her trying to act seductive all of a sudden. First, Garcia and Barreto once again prove that they have the acting chops to be worthy of being called actors. The two exudes chemistry despite not having much physical interaction. It’s such a shame that they were pushed aside, almost neglected, just to give way to their co-stars’ supposed love story.<br /><br />The second one is the superb dramatic scenes acted out by the cast, especially from Barretto and Cuneta. Their mother-daughter moments stood out in a way that they do not get over-the-top. No loud bawling, no screaming, no unending streaming down of tears, but audience can definitely feel the weight of their emotions just by looking at their faces. <br /><br />It’s hard to come to terms with the fact that despite great potential, “Unexpectedly Yours” misses the mark on several key points when it comes to rom-coms. Truly, it is not because Cuneta and Padilla can no longer work as a love-team given their age. If anything, Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta have proved that love stories are just for young adults.
