Member countries include Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, United States, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, China, People's Republic of China, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Chile, Peru, Russian Federation and Vietnam.<br /><br />The highlight of the annual summit was the 23rd Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay on November 18-19, 2015. Photo: APEC website</td></tr></tbody></table>The Declaration states that while achieving ongoing economic transformation will not be easy, APEC Leaders are confident that APEC members will continue to drive regional and global economic prosperity through quality economic growth, as supported by these collective commitments.<br /><br />In the past couple of days, discussions also took on a broader approach to discuss critical regional and global issues in the Asia-Pacific region such as technological innovation and the challenges presented by the ever-changing global economic milieu.<br /><br />Throughout the year, representatives from all member economies held 229 meetings to advance individual economies and the region at large.<br /><br /><b>The following were discussed in various meetings throughout the year:</b><br /><br />1. Boracay Action Agenda, which will help micro, small, and medium enterprises access the global and regional markets;<br /><br />2. Cebu Action Plan, which will widen entrepreneurial access to financial markets;<br /><br />3. Finalization of the Renewed APEC Agenda for Structural Reform, which will guide economies on which areas they need to reform to achieve sustained growth;<br /><br />4. Disaster Risk Reduction Framework, which recognizes the impact of climate change on our region;<br /><br />5. APEC Strategy for Strengthening Quality Growth, which will guide member countries in undertaking robust, comprehensive, and ambitious structural reforms over the next five years;<br /><br />6. and Leaders approval of the APEC Services Cooperation Framework. The services sector is becoming a more important part of the economic equation. It makes up approximately two-thirds of the GDP in the APEC region.<br /><br />Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama joined Jack Ma of the Alibaba Group, and Filipina engineer Aisa Mijeno in the discussions for the climate change issue and how countries and leaders should act on it now.  Jack Ma called for the support and empowerment of the more than 10 million small businesses in the world while Mijeno, the founder of a company who makes ecological lamps that run on salt and water (SALt) emphasized that "climate change is real."<br /><br /><b>Here are the salient points on the partnerships with the member economies as discussed in the Economic Leaders' Meeting:</b><br /><br />1. Mexico will help the Philippines to combat drug trafficking;<br /><br />2. Philippines offered assistance in supporting Papua New Guinea agriculture sector;<br /><br />3. Strategic partnership with Vietnam and Australia for the defense, disaster risk reduction, and food security;<br /><br />4. USA would be turning over to the Philippines a research vessel and a coast guard cutter which will boost the capabilities of our Navy.<br /><br />5. Manila and Tokyo are working on a deal to transfer military equipment to the country;<br /><br />6. Agreement on the Establishment of a Philippine-Russia Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation seeks to facilitate and promote trade and economic cooperation between the two countries;<br /><br />7. Memorandum of understanding between Chile and Philippines on disaster risk reduction management during Bachelet’s state visit;<br /><br />8. South Korea's support for the Philippines's military modernization program;<br /><br />9. Colombia offered knowledge and experience in anti-insurgency and anti-illegal drugs campaign;<br /><br />10. Aquino and New Zealand Prime Minister John Key sought to expand cooperation in the areas of electronics and electrical equipment, automotive, information technology, business process management, engineering services, infrastructure and public-private partnership projects.<br /><br />A number of leaders also expressed their support for the Philippines joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership which will offer access to a far larger market. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vowed support to the Philippines’ possible accession to the United States-led Trans-Pacific Partnership composed of 12 countries.<br /><br />President Aquino thanked the Filipinos for the support on this event. "I am grateful to our countrymen who have expressed their support for our hosting.  All my fellow leaders heaped praise on how our people have welcomed them, and their words really made me swell up with pride."<br /><br />On the other hand, several groups of activists staged protests on APEC Week all over Metro Manila to demonstrate their appeal to junk APEC. With this, security of the PNP was tightened or at “maximum tolerance” policy toward protesters.<br /><br />Several netizens also expressed their disappointment over the inflicted traffic caused by road closures in some areas near the venue.<br /><br />Reports said that more than 11,000 attended in the annual summit. Peru will chair APEC throughout 2016 and host the 24th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting.</div>

Arca South, Taguig</b><br /><b><br /></b> A master-planned development in the former FTI Complex in Taguig, 74-hectare Arca South is one of Ayala Land’s most ambitious projects. In fact, aside from Solaire Resort and Casino and the City of Dreams Manila, two more billion-dollar integrated resorts are expected to open in the Bay City’s Paranaque side, in addition to multi-tower condos from SMDC, Federal Land, and Anchor Land Holdings, another large mall this time by the Ayala group, and multiple office towers. Colliers International Philippines expects the Bay City to soon transform into a fully developed business and leisure district, providing a viable alternative to the Makati and Fort Bonifacio CBDs.<br /><br /><br /><b>5. If Government has to suspend classes and work this week, there definitely is something wrong with public transportation. They are accompanied by an entourage of businessmen whom we hope will consider investing in the country -- so that MAYBE, we can get enough funding for public transportation projects like your trains; so that MAYBE, should enough trains be built and cause massive lay-offs in the PUV industry, the unemployed can have a chance to work in foreign companies present in the country instead; so that MAYBE, these foreigners can teach us a thing or two on how to work first, get there fast, and complain later; and last, we give them a special lane so that MAYBE, they won't shy away from investing in the Philippines because money is wasted while we sit in traffic.</i><br /><i><br /></i><i>4. Traffic lights may be busted once in a while in different areas of the Metropolis. But when you see a traffic light blinking yellow, almost always, there is a traffic enforcer in the middle of the road (rain or shine), doing the job of the damn thing. It's the drivers who arrogantly do not follow that's usually the problem. And if it hurts to see Manila so squeaky clean this week, it hurts MORE when we realize that street sweepers are trying to keep it clean but it is WE, Filipinos, who throw our candy wrappers, cigarette butts, spits, and all our shit on all goddamn corners EVERY SINGLE DAY.</i><br /><i><br /></i><i>5. We suffer poor internet speeds because we are slaves of your big telecommunications companies who fight each other for monopoly. We suffer because our Constitution gives too many restrictions on foreign investors, making selfish Filipino telecommunications magnates our ONLY choice if we want internet. The Philippines' doors are half-closed to foreign companies who CAN provide us better net service and CAN give us an option to choose between a turtle or a rabbit. APEC tries to open that other leaf for all of us.</i><br /><i><br /></i><i>6. It hurts when Filipinos say we have FAKE beauty. It hurts when Filipinos see the negative more than the positive. And it hurts when out of ten Pinoys, only 1 or two are PATRIOTIC despite the hardships. Our Government is only 1% of the whole Filipino community; the other 99 is YOU and ME. So if we say the words FAKE BEAUTY to describe the Philippines, we say that to describe OURSELVES.</i><br /><i><br /></i><i>7. It hurts when we put the burden on Government's shoulder alone, without asking what we can do to help; it hurts when we use our role as taxpayers to shout and corner Government for flaws WE CREATE ON OUR OWN; it hurts when we tag Filipinos as second-class citizens when it is WE who forced that status upon ourselves.</i><br /><i><br /></i><i>Now, I don't know which culture taught us our damn attitude of whining all the time and pointing blaming fingers at others except ourselves. No foreign country forced us to be miserable. We chose that out of our free will. We choose to be a-holes who cut lines on the road when we can simply follow a straight line; we choose to desecrate our streets with trash when we can simply keep it in our pockets and wait until we see a trash bin; we can choose to plant crops and live decently in our hometowns in the province instead of facing a harsh life and add up to the list of homeless and poor in Manila; we can choose to follow infrastructure regulations to support better urban planning instead of waving money to have our buildings and houses recklessly built at the expense of our neighbors; we can follow the coding scheme strictly instead of playing hide-and-seek and catch-me-if-you-can with traffic enforcers, and add up to traffic; we can vote better candidates for Government seats but we choose the ones who smile with celebrities over logic; and we can look at the Philippines, that has stood the test of our painful gullibility, with renewed pride instead of bashing it over and over again.</i><br /><i><br /></i><i>I will not be sorry for this. The system prevails because we ALLOW it. You see, people in Government come and go. Even the Philippine President cannot overstay in Malacanang. On Tuesday, Poe rejoiced after the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) dumped the disqualification case filed against her. Miriam Defensor-Santiago got 11 percent or eight-point improvement from three percent previously.<br /><br />Meanwhile, Poe's running-mate Sen. Francis Escudero took the lead for the vice presidential race with whopping 43 percent.<br /><br />Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.  got 21 percent to secure second place, while Sen. Alan Cayetano received 11 percent. LP's Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo only gained 7 percent.<br /><br />The survey was conducted on October 18 to 29 among 3,400 respondents nationwide. It was the first published survey after the candidates filed their certificates of candidacy last Oct. 12 to 16.</div>
