MANILA, Philippines - "Jobs and livelihood opportunities will be aplenty on Labor Day."
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz said recently, as the DOLE reaches the finalization of its preparation for the Labor Day 2015 celebration.
“The 2015 Labor Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Disenteng Trabaho at Kabuhayan, Alay Natin sa Bayan” which expresses the DOLE’s effort with its private tripartite sector partners to focus on facilitating workers’ and employers’ search for jobs and the creation of livelihoods towards developing the country’s top resource and achieving decent and productive jobs that will contribute to economic growth,” Baldoz said.
Baldoz added that the Department’s widely anticipated Labor Day job and livelihood fairs on May 1 will reach 56 in various venues that will be very accessible and comfortable to jobseekers and even informal sector entrepreneurs expected to troop to the event sites.
“A total of 251,677 vacancies are ready for jobseekers in the whole country. Of this number, 86,745, or 34.47 percent, are local job vacancies, while 160,525, or 63.78 percent, are overseas job opportunities,” said Baldoz.
A total of 1,398 employers from different regions are participating in this year’s Labor Day job fairs.
For the DOLE-National Capital Region, its Labor Day job fair will be held at the Forum 1 and 2 of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), Pasay City. The DOLE-NCR has confirmed the participation of 75 local and 28 local employers, for a total of 104. One government agency will participate as employer.
For DOLE-CAR, the Labor Day job and livelihood fair will be held at the Baguio Convention Center, Baguio City, where 25 local and 10 overseas employers are confirmed to participate.
DOLE-Region 1 will conduct its two job and livelihood fairs at the SM City Rosales, Pangasinan and at the Robinsons Place in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. In this region, 16 government agencies; 64 local; and 20 foreign employers will join the jon fair.
DOLE-Region 2 will hold its two job and livelihood fairs on SM City Cauayan and Robinson’s Mall Santiago City, with 100 employers participating—83 local and 17 foreign employers.
For DOLE-Region 3, its 12 Labor Day job and livelihood fairs will be held at the following venues: Puregold N. E. Baler, Suklayin, Aurora; SM City Baliuag, DRT Highway, Pagala, Baliuag, Bulacan; SM City Marilao, McArthur Highway, Pagala, Marilao, Bulacan; Freedom Park, Burgos Street, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija; SM Mega Center The Mall, San Roque Melencio, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija; SM City Clark, Clarkfield, Pampanga; SM City Downtown, City of San Fernando, Pampanga; SM City Pampanga, City of San Fernando, Pampanga; SM City, Tarlac, Tarlac; Masinloc Gymnasium, Masinloc, Zambales; and SM City Olongapo, Olongapo City. A post-labor day job fair at the main campus of the Bataan Polytechnic State University Main Campus, Balanga City, will be held on 6 May.
In Region 4-A, a total of 15 job and livelihood fairs will be held at the following venues: SM Rosario, Rosario, Cavite; SM Bacoor, Bacoor, Cavite; SM Molino, Molino, Cavite, SM Dasmariñas, Dasmariñas, Cavite; The District Mall, Imus, Cavite; Savemore Sta. Rosa, Sta. Rosa, Laguna; SM Calamba, Calamba, Laguna; SM San Pablo, San Pablo, Laguna; SM Lipa, Lipa City, Batangas; SM Batangas, Batangas, Batangas City Sports Coliseum; SM Lucena, Lucena, Quezon; SM City Masinag, Antipolo City, Rizal; SM City Taytay, Taytay, Rizal; and SM Center Angono, Angono, Rizal. There will be a total of 128 employers joining the job fair—all local.
In Region 4-B, two job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Pinamalayan Gymnasium. Pinamalayan. Oriental Mindoro, and Robinson’s Place Palawan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. A total of 14 employers will join the job fair, 8 local and 6 overseas.
DOLE-Region 5 will conduct its job and livelihood fair at SM City Naga, where 36 employers—33 local and 3 overseas are expected to participate.
In Region 6, jobseekers may seek employment opportunities in the following venues: SM City Iloilo, Manduriao, Iloilo City; Amigo Plaza Mall, Iloilo City; and at the Main Atrium, North Wing, SM City Bacolod, Bacolod City, where 74 employers will participate—54 local and 24 overseas.
In Region 7, six job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Cebu City Sports Complex, Cebu City; SM Cebu City; SM Consolacion; Cebu Provincial Capitol; Lapu-lapu City, and Robinson’s Place, Dumaguete City. A total of 91 employers—46 local and 45 overseas are expected to participate in these job fairs.
In Region 8, job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Tacloban City Convention Center and Ormoc City Hall, Ormoc City, where 34 employers—24 local, two government, and 8 overseas employers are participating.
In Region 9, job and livelihood fairs will be held at the Zamboanga Del Norte City Gymnasium in Dapitan; and at the Zamboanga Economic Freeport Authority in Talisayan, Zamboanga City. A total of 42 employers—four from the government, 16 local, and 22 overseas—have confirmed participation.
In Region 10, a job and livelihood fair will be held at the SM City, Cagayan De Oro City, with 69 employers participating—seven from the government, 45 local, and 17 overseas.
In DOLE-Region 11, four job and livelihood fairs will be conducted at the Gaisano Mall of Davao City; Gaisano Mall of Tagum City; SM City Davao-Ecoland; and Darong Barangay Gym, Sta. Cruz, Davao Del Sur. A total of 114 employers have confirmed participation: one from government, 80 local, and 33 overseas.
In Region 12, a job and livelihood fair will be held at the Gensan KCC Mall, with 50 employers participating—30 local and 20 overseas.
Lastly, in Caraga, a job and livelihood fair will be held at the Almont Inland Resort on J.C. Aquino Avenue, Butuan City. A total of 39 employers—29 local and 10 overseas—have confirmed participation.
Baldoz said the industries with the most number of vacancies in the Labor Day job fairs are: manufacturing; transport, storage, and communications; Other community, social, and personal service activities; and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and personal household goods.
The top 10 occupations for local employment are as follows:
(1) production machine operator, with 14,398 vacancies;
(2) welder, 8,130 vacancies;
(3) call center agent, 1,610 vacancies;
(4) customer service representative, 1,602 vacancies;
(5) sewer or tailor, 1,230 vacancies;
(6) factory worker or production worker, 1,114 vacancies;
(7) office staff or clerk, 1,019 vacancies;
(8) merchandiser, 998 vacancies;
(9) sales and marketing assistant, 778 vacancies;
and (10) painter, 650 vacancies.
For overseas employment, the following are the top 10 occupations:
(1) construction worker with 11,575 vacancies;
(2) office staff, 4,031 vacancies;
(3) professional nurse, 3,024 vacancies;
(4) domestic helper, 2,414 vacancies;
(5) medical staff, 1,899 vacancies;
(6) hotel and restaurant crew, 1,610 vacancies;
(7) office administrator, 1,500 vacancies;
(8) laborer, 1,357 vacancies;
(9) welder, 1,000 vacancies;
and (10) staff nurse, 964 vacancies.
