MANILA, Philippines - The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), through its Facebook page, released on Monday, January 8, the results of the two-week run in terms of box-office returns.
The 43rd edition of MMFF features eight official entries: All of You, Ang Larawan, Deadma Walking, Haunted Forest, Meant to Beh, Ang Panday, Siargao, and Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad.
As posted around 1:40 p.m., the MMFF posted: "We have exceeded our 1 billion target."
The shared photo added: "We are very happy to announce that we have hit our targets and have set new records with the MMFF grosses."
On December 27, the committe revealed that MMFF 2017 broke box-office records as it surpassed the 2015 first and second day gross sales. "It also tripled the foot traffic to the theaters from last year," the statement said.
“The big achievement is bringing back our kababayans to the theaters. It took quite some time before we saw this kind of enthusiasm once again from the Filipino viewers,” said MMFF Execom Chair Tim Orbos.
In 2017, box-office figures per entry were not released while the festival is ongoing. MMFF has stiffer penalty of P200,000 for early release of top-grossing films. In addition, the film outfit proven guilty of releasing the numbers ahead would not be allowed to join the next festival.
DEVELOPING STORY: Once available, the list of top grossers will be posted on this site. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, MMFF has a good news for the moviegoers (especially those who just came back from their holiday vacation) as the showing of films is extended in select cinemas: SM Cinema, Ayala Malls Cinemas, Starmall Cinemas, and Cinema 2000.
