MANILA, Philippines - Police Officer Mariano Flormata, Jr. known as Neil Perez won the 9th Mister International 2014 in Ansan, South Korea on Saturday, February 14, 2015.
This is the first time a Filipino won since the male pageant began in 2006.
A bomb and explosives technician Perez, who is part of the Aviation Security Group of the Philippine National Police, bested other 28 candidates from around the world to take home the title.
The runners-up in the competition are representatives from Lebanon (1st runner-up), Czech Republic (2nd-runner up), Poland (3rd-runner up), and Slovenia (4th runner-up).
Other awards such as the Most Stylish Award and Mr. Photogenic went to Korea and Japan, while Colombia and Bahamas took home the Mr. Congeniality award and Best National Costume, respectively.
Perez competed in the competition wearing outfits from Pinoy designers Edwin Uy and Olan Roque. During the question and answer portion, he used Filipino language.
Reports said that Perez dedicated his title to the 44 members of the PNP-Special Action Force (SAF) who have died in a clash in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
In 2013, Jose Anmer Paredes of Venezuela claimed the title.
