MANILA, Philippines - President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law a bill declaring December 8 of every year a special non-working holiday to commemorate Feast of Immaculate Conception of Mary.
The declaration through Republic Act (R.A.) No. 10966 will add another day to the many holidays and special non-working days the nation has in one year.
In 2018 and 2019, December 8 falls on a Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Majority leader Rodolfo Fariñas of Ilocos Norte authored the bill.
The Filipinos consider the feast a "day of obligation," requiring Catholics to participate in Mass.
