MANILA, Philippines- For the past few years, Filipinos have slowly lost their trust in policemen as several videos showing their abusive acts have emerged online. Indeed, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been struggling to shake off the bad image that has been hounding it for so long.
But two policemen, who flagged down vehicles in Cubao, have somehow changed the netizens’ view on Filipino police officers.
Facebook user Jhieriel Rosario have witnessed how the policemen surprised everyone with their random act of kindness: handing out free Bibles to motorists and commuters.
In her viral Facebook post, Rosario said she was on her way to Aurora Boulevard from Cubao when she noticed two policemen along with several other people in civilian stopping motorists. Moments later, Rosario was shocked when one of the policemen suddenly approached her and gave her a New Testament Bible.
“Makakatuwa na makakita ng mga pulis na namimigay ng libereng bible sa ilalim ng init ng araw.. Ito din ang kaunaunahang pagkakataon na may taong nag bigay sakin ng bible, pulis pa,” she wrote on Facebook.
(I’m happy to see policemen handing out free Bibles under the scorching heat of the sun. This is also the first time that i have received a bible from someone, and he happens to be a policeman.)
The story of the cops’ random act of kindness has been shared in various Facebook pages and has touched the hearts of Filipino netizens.

In July 2015, PNP chief Ricardo Marquez urged officers and personnel to do at least one good deed everyday.
He said: “Ang sukatan ng isang organizational breakthrough in performance ay hindi 'yung paminsan-minsan malaking accomplishment dito at doon. Ang sukatan talaga ay kung lahat ng miyembro ng organization ay gumagawa ng isang magandang gawain araw-araw.”
(The measure of an organizational breakthrough in performance isn’t about the getting big accomplishments every once in a while. Its real measure is if all the members of the organization are doing a good deed everyday.) -Mini/The Summit Express
