MANILA, Philippines - The president of United States Barack Obama arrived in Manila for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' meeting on Tuesday morning, November 17, 2015.

The Air Force One carrying U.S. Pres. Obama has landed at Balagbag-Villamor Air Base at 11:19 a.m.

Obama, fresh from the G20 Summit in Antalya, Turkey was welcomed by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Cuisia Jr, and US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg.

The American president will stay at the Sofitel Hotel in Manila.

Obama is scheduled to speak at the CEO Summit on Wednesday (November 18) and to be joined by other leaders including President Benigno Aquino III. On Thursday (November 19), he will join the APEC Leaders' Retreat.

Obama's meeting with Aquino is expected to touch on regional tensions over the South China Sea and enhanced military cooperation. He is set to reinforce trade and security ties with the economically dynamic region.

After the APEC Summit, he will then fly to Kuala Lumpur for the ASEAN and East Asia meetings.
