Suspect in the killing of ‘model’ Grab driver: “Pera lang sana kaso nanlaban”

MANILA, Philippines - The suspect in the killing of a good samaritan Grab driver in October was presented by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa to the public on Wednesday, November 8.

The suspect identified as Narc Tulod Delemios, alias Miko admitted to the killing but stated he did not intend to kill Gerardo Maquidato Jr., who was also kicked off from his vehicle as the carnapper sped away.

Delemios confessed: “Alam ko mahihirapan kayong mapatawad ako pero pera lang ang gusto ko sa kanya pero lumaban po siya.”

Maquidato’s wife, Brenda was inconsolable and was not having any of Delemios’ excuses. She said, “Alam ko hindi lalaban ang asawa ko. Alam ko gusto niyang bumalik sa pamilya niya. Alam ko ang iniisip niya paano siya makaaalis sa ‘yo para makauwi sa amin.”

Even, Maquidato’s mother couldn’t stop her anguish and confronted the man who killed her beloved son. She asked, “Hindi mo pinagbigyan. Bakit mo ginawa? Napakawalang puso mo, masahol ka pa sa hayop.”

“Napakasipag niya. Parang hayop ang ginawa mo sa kanya. Pagsisisihan mo nang habambuhay ang ginawa mo,” the very emotional mother cried.

Meanwhile, the PNP recovered Maquidato's car in Tarlac.

Chief Dela Rosa already suggested that Delemios be subjected to a drug test.

Delemios was arrested on Tuesday, November 7 at his home in Pasay City. The key to the arrest was when his lived-in partner went and confessed to the authorities that her phone was used to book the slain Grab driver.

It was also found out that Delemios has a standing arrest warrant for a homicide back in 2015. Delemios killed a certain Gino Balbuena after a petty fight during a basketball game. The relatives of Balbuena also presented themselves to the Pasay City Police to testify.

Not only Ablanza filled-up the Alab’s last piece, another PBA veteran was added to its coaching staff. Coach Jimmy Alapag’s long-time TNT teammate and former MVP Danny “Dynamite” Seigle together with fellow assistant coaches Mac Cuan and Chappy Callanta. Cuan was Alab’s head coach last season.

Just a month ago, the “Cebuano Hotshot” Dondon Hontiveros joined Tanduay Alab Pilipinas after hanging his PBA jersey. This will be Hontiveros’ second time to pay in a Tanduay uniform. He suited-up for the Tanduay Rhum Masters in 2000 after his stint at the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association under Cebu Gems.

Ex-TNT Ka-tropa import, Ivan Johnson will be Alab’s reinforcement together with Reggie Okosa and Lawrence Domingo who will play for the 2nd time on the same team as its Asian heritage import.

Last year’s MVP, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. who skipped this year’s PBA Rookie Draft will still lead the team along with other locals Rico Maierhofer, Robby Celiz, Paolo Javelano, Chris Sumalinog, John Raymundo and Josh Urbiztondo. Urbiztondo who was a PBA free agent a year ago played for the Singapore Slingers last season.

Overall, this season’s roster is way better than the last one especially with Jimmy Alapag steering the wheel with the support of team owners Charlie Dy and Dondon Monteverde.

ABL season opener will be on November 19 where Tanduay Alab Pilipinas will be facing the defending champions Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions. Coach Alapag emphasized their first game against Hong Kong will be the team’s barometer of success.

All Tanduay Alab Pilipinas’ games will be aired live by ABS-CBN Sports and Action.
