IN PHOTOS: Mar Roxas gets snubbed in Hong Kong?

MANILA, Philippines – Former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and her running mate Congresswoman Leni Robredo didn’t waste any time and just continued their campaign tour. But this time, they went out of the country and tried to appease our fellow Filipinos in Hong Kong on Sunday morning, April 3, 2016.

Mar gets snobbed in Hong Kong?

In line with their international visit, various photos are now circulating in the world wide web showing Roxas camp’s failure to get the nod of our modern heroes due to lack of physical support from the OFW Community in the said country.

Roxas believers accused the supporters of Mayor Rody Duterte for disseminating wrong information and misleading the public. In defense, Roxas’ camp explained the real meaning of the photo where the Secretary was just closely listening to an OFW’s story of survival in Hong Kong. The lady in blue named Marites Palma, later came out and supported Secretary Roxas side’ s claims on the infamous and viral photos.

To prove that Roxas and Robredo’s out of country trip was a big success, “RoRo” (Roxas-Robredo) advocates took photos of their event and posted them online to counter the black-propaganda images which were allegedly released by the Duterte Camp.

Unknown to many, Roxas’ political archrival, Davao City Mayor Digong Duterte also held his own rally in Hong Kong with the same objective of winning the votes of the 90,000 OFWs based there and other Pinoys working in different parts of the globe led by all-female group Mocha Girls. Although, the Furious Leader was not physically present in the gathering.

Mocha Uson, a publicly-confessed Duterte supporter and leader of Mocha Girls threw jabs at the local TV stations for not covering their own rally. As evidences, the sexy singer had posted pictures of the event on her Official Fan Page.

Aside from the Duterte-favored photos, there are also few videos showing a parade of Filipinos intentionally passing by Roxas’ booths displaying that majority of OFWs in Hong Kong are Pro – Duterte.

Among all the photos released by both camps during the Hong Kong leg, one image really stood out with a strong message of courage and gallant stand: A picture of an OFW named “Gie” wearing Duterte apparel beside Mar Roxas.

The voice of the entire OFW Community globally brings big impact to majority of Filipinos in decision making on whom they should vote for. Everyone treats them as the modern day heroes for helping our economy grow. And this is the main reason why politicians love OFWs.

Based on data, there are at least 1.5 Million OFWs who are eligible to vote remotely. That number matters a lot for every presidential down to senatorial candidates. Aside from that number, they are also looking after the influence that our fellow compatriots can give to the entire nation.

NAIA invites "world's worst airport" title anew - Miriam

MANILA, Philippines - Presidential candidate Miriam Defensor Santiago on Monday warned that the five-hour blackout that stranded thousands of passengers threatens to put the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) back in the list of worst airports in the world.

Santiago, laureate of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for government service said the administration must immediately investigate the NAIA-3 incident on Saturday and remove from office those who are found responsible.

"The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) seems eager to regain the 'world's worst airport' title which it lost only in 2015, not only for inconveniencing passengers, but for not working as it should," the senator said.

The NAIA was the world's worst airport from 2011 to 2013, and the fourth worst in 2014, according to online travel website Guide to Sleeping in Airports, which ranks airports based on comfort, convenience, cleanliness and customer service.

Santiago was responding to news that as of Sunday, some 80 domestic flights from NAIA Terminal 3 have been cancelled and another 80 international and local flights have been delayed due to the blackout, affecting some 15,000 passengers.

The airport administration blamed the outage on a Manila Electric Company (Meralco) supply trip, and claimed that even after Meralco restored power, the NAIA remained without electricity. Meralco has meanwhile denied a power outage.

Santiago, for her part, said that the NAIA must have uninterrupted power supply. "Assuming for the sake of argument that the Meralco line tripped, where were the generators? The explanation that they were not working is unacceptable," she added.

The infrastructure agenda Santiago posted on her website includes the development of a modern international airport. The NAIA runway design, she said, is one of the main factors for congestion.

"The runways are perpendicular to each other, barring planes from using one runway when the other is in use. If NAIA will be expanded, we must build runways parallel to each other," the senator said.

"In the meantime, it would be wise to reallocate some flights to the airport in Clark, which is currently underutilized. Clark Airport should complement and not necessarily replace NAIA," she added.

Courier mass-dismisses employees?

MANILA, Philippines – On Friday afternoon of April 1, 2016, one of the start-up courier companies in the country, Fastrack Courier posted nineteen photos of its employess with Caption: DISMISSED EMPLOYEES.

Fastrack Courier dismissed employees

Many were puzzled by this post since it was shown during “April Fools Days.” Many thought that it was a prank. But it’s not.

Fastrack Courier is one of the many reliable local couriers which is loved and preferred by many Filipinos especially the small business owners due to its fast and super affordable service rates.

But come April 1, Fastrack fired nineteen of its employees who seemed to be its regular riders.

Customers began to fume on the courier’s poor service that day.

The loyal patrons also started questioning Fastrack for the real reason of the mass-firing of its employees for security purposes but as of publishing time, the courier has no response on the queries posted as comments on their post.

People are really wondering for the main reason of the dismissal. Some are now guessing that the dismissed employees possibly didn’t remit the service fee that they had collected from their clients. While some think that the items that they had picked-up were not delivered to the respective recipients because those riders might kept the items for themselves.

It has also come to our knowledge and based on the courier’s post way back in 2015, that some crooks are using the company name to pick-up the items from their regular customers.

No customer liked this warning from Fastrack.

But the question is, how could these bad guys know that there are items ready for pick-up from the courier’s valued clients? There must be someone or some insiders giving tips on this group of wrongdoers.

Could this possibly the case of the nineteen dismissed employee? As of the moment, only the courier management knows. If the courier remains mum on this issue, their clients will keep on wondering and might look for other courier companies to serve them in order to protect their valuables and money.

There’s no such thing as easy money. Every thing “is” and “must” be hard-earned. So let’s be wise and vigilant. Ask for company IDs if possible and call your courier or Police Stations should suspicisions arise.

It’s safe to be ready than sorry.

Just a public reminder from The Summit Express.

North Cotabato governor slams politicians planning to donate rice to Kidapawan farmers

MANILA, Philippines- A video of North Cotabato governor Emmylou "Lala" Taliño Mendoza warning politicians planning to donate rice to drought-hit Kidapawan City farmers is making rounds on social media.

North Cotabato governor slams politicians planning to donate rice to Kidapawan farmers

In the short video clip, Mendoza was heard telling the media: "Bigla kayong darating, magbibigay ng bigas? Nang-i-insulto ba kayo o namumulitiko kayo?”

(You’ll suddenly arrive to give rice. Is that an insult or are you politicking?)

Mendoza also cautioned politicians not to use North Cotabato as their staging ground for propaganda in order to get support from the international community and collect money.

Watch the video.

According to reports, Mendoza was pertaining to the camp of presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte who have gathered 30 sacks of rice for the hungry farmers of Kidapawan City.

However, Duterte Presidential Campaign Team head Peter Laviña clarified that Duterte advised them not to meddle with the ongoing problem in Cotabato. He also alleged Mendoza of not performing her duties.

"We do not have intentions to interfere with the trouble there but there is a problem, people are getting harassed so we have to help,” Laviña said.

About 5,000 farmers coming from different parts of North Cotabato province held a protest on Wednesday, March 30 to demand government assistance after their farms were hit by the El Niño. Portions of the Cotabato-Davao Highway were blocked during the protest.

But instead of getting calamity fund and rice provision, the protest turned into a violent dispersal between policemen and the farmers. The clash resulted into the death of three protesters while 116 others were injured. A farmer reportedly died on the spot during the encounter.

According to Apo Sandawa Lumadnong Panaghiusa sa Cotabato leader Norma Capuyan, the police, who were trying to protect the National Food Authority provincial office from the protesters, were trying to disperse them using water cannons. However, when the farmers stood their ground, the police began firing.

In an interview with ANC, Mendoza insisted that the police officers had exercised maximum tolerance during the protests.

Meanwhile, actor and known Duterte supporter Robin Padilla donated 200 sacks of rice to the farmers. Expressing his disgust over the incident, wrote on the caption of his Instagram post: "Ang mga magsasaka ng Inangbayan Pilipinas pinagbabaril sa kanilang mapayapang paghingi ng tulong sa kanilang gobyerno.”
