Despite the unresolved questions concerning her alleged failure to meet the residency and citizenship requirements for presidential candidates, 30% of Filipino registered voters said they would elect Poe to the presidency if the 2016 elections were held at that time.

This overall voter preference puts the lawmaker ahead of other presidential apirants who statistically shared second spot - Vice- President Jejomar C. Binay (23%), former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Manuel A. Roxas II (20%), and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte (20%).

Four (4) other presidential candidates have voter preferences of at most 4%. Only 3% of registered voters are not inclined to vote for any of these presidential candidates.

The survey which was conducted from January 24 – 28, 2016 using face-to-face interviews has a ± 2 percent margin of error with confidence level at 95 percent.

Across geographic areas and socio-economic classes, Senator Poe leads in the rest of Luzon (39%) and Class D (32%).

Meanwhile, almost half of Mindanaoans (48%) support the candidacy of Davao City Mayor Duterte.

In Metro Manila, Senator Poe and Vice-President Binay share the lead (33% versus 32%) while in the Visayas, the top candidates for president are former DILG Secretary Roxas (32%) and Senator Poe (26%).

In Class ABC, almost the same voter preferences are recorded by Senator Poe (25%), Davao City Mayor Duterte (24%), Vice-President Binay (21%), and former DILG Secretary Roxas (20%). As for those in Class E, their most preferred candidates are Vice-President Binay (30%), Senator Poe (26%), and former DILG Secretary Roxas (25%).

Only Senator Poe and Vice-President Binay experience marked movements in their presidential voter preferences between December 2015 and January 2016, Pulse Asia said.

Electoral support for Senator Poe becomes more pronounced (+9 percentage points) while that for Vice-President Binay eases (-10 percentage points) during the period December 2015 to January 2016.

Poe, in a statement, said she's both overwhelmed and humbled by the survey results. "The latest Pulse Asia survey is both overwhelming and humbling. It echoes the voice of the people who trust and believe in my capacity to be a leader no matter what hurdles are thrown my way," she said.

Pulse Asia Research said pre-election surveys were done without any party singularly commissioning the research effort.

Cardiologist confirms Filipino in Honduras infected with Zika Virus

MANILA, Philippines - An unidentified Filipino living in Honduras has contracted the mosquito-borne Zika virus, the world’s latest health scare.

Dr. Willie T. Ong, a cardiologist, has validated a report that a Filipino has been infected with the virus that has swept Latin America including Honduras.

“Na-confirm nga na positive for Zika itong pasyente at sa mismong ospital ay gumaling naman. Ngayon ay nasa bahay na ang pasyente,” Dr. Ong told ABS-CBN News.

(The patient tested positive for Zika and has recovered in the hospital. Currently, the patient is home.)

Dr. Ong added that he is concerned since the relatives who took care of the patient will be returning to the Philippines.

Although the Philippines is still free from the Zika virus according to the Department of Health (DOH), the government agency doesn’t have the capacity to test passengers coming from countries with Zika virus. Currently, the DOH has only 1,000 testing kits since supplies are limited all over the world.

“Most important is hindi ka makagat ng lamok para walang kakayahan na masalin o lumipat yung sakit na Zika,”said DOH spokesperson Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy.

(What’s important is you won’t be bitten by the mosquito so that there’s no possibility that the disease will transmitted.)

Zika virus, which is carried by Aedes aegypti mosquito, causes symptoms such as fever, rashes, body pain and conjunctivitis. It has been linked to the rise of babies born with microcephaly, a congenital condition in which the brain of the baby does not become fully developed.

Health experts suggest the following measures:

1. Observe yourself.
2. Wear long sleeves and pants.
3. Put anti-mosquito lotion.
4. Avoid having sexual intercourse or use condom

Jayson and Juan Garaña Jr. are grade school pupils at Manangle Elementary School in Sipocot, Camarines Sur. But unlike other regular students, the Garaña brothers had to endure a long walk towards their “home” at the peak of a hill. Unknown to many, these young boys live inside a cave with their father.

According to a report by ABS-CBN News, the family had no choice but to find refuge in the cave when their small hut was devastated by the typhoon Glenda in 2014. A small lamp lights their unusual home which has a small bedroom, a cooking area and a dining table.

Most youngsters entertain themselves at home using TV or gadgets, but the two actually spend their free time playing an old-school Pinoy game, holen or marbles.

Their teacher, Luningning Bagatua, discovered the boys’ condition during a home visitation last January 23. Although Bagatua and her co-teachers initially took pity of the brothers, they couldn’t help but admire the boys.

“Masigasig po silang mag-aral kasi alam ko po malayo ang lugar nila pero araw-araw po sila pumapasok maliban na lamang po kung may sakit,” Bagatua told ABS-CBN News.

(I know they study diligently because even if they come from a far place, they come to school everyday except when they are sick.)

Because of Bagatua’s viral post, which has earned over 16,000 shares as of this writing, several good samaritans pledged to help the brothers. In fact, someone has agreed to sponsor the snacks of the boys.
