Partylist denies alleged P70-million ‘unholy alliance’ vs. Marcos

MANILA, Philippines - A multi-sectoral partylist coalition issued a statement Tuesday denying all accusations on alleged “unholy alliance” with vice presidential candidate Chiz Escudero in exchange for seventy million pesos to derail the candidacy of his rival Senator Bongbong Marcos for the 2016 national elections.

Sanlakas on Chiz and Bongbong
On alleged “unholy alliance” with Escudero, partylist denies alleged pay-off, says article is pure baloney.
“Sanlakas does not need any prodding, much less need to get paid, for us to take a clear and unequivocal stand against the electoral bid of another Marcos in office,” said Manjette Lopez, president of Sanlakas.

Lopez, herself a victim of martial law, twice arrested and detained explained. “We join hands with the on-going Never Again Campaign and the Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacanang (CARMMA) in calling for the rejection of Bongbong Marcos’ candidacy in the coming elections. We demand justice not only for human rights violations, but also the economic injustice inflicted by the plunder of billions of dollars by the Marcos family and cronies.”

On February 28, Manila Times published a story claiming that a reliable source nicknamed as “Heart,” said Escudero’s decision to approve release of the P70 million to the two leftist groups who are enemies of traditional politicians. It was described as a “desperate move” by those who knew about the agreement directly or indirectly.

“The allegations in the article of a certain Nelson Badilla are absolutely fabricated. Sanlakas has no relation with a certain Charlie Avila, the alleged conduit to Senator Escudero. This is pure baloney. We do not need a conduit for we have worked directly with Sen. Escudero in the past on such issues as the fight against contractualization, increase in wages, tax reform vs VAT, and the like.”

“The article is malicious and smacks of red-baiting, very reminiscent of Martial Law tactics when seeking to malign its enemies.” Lopez added. She asserted that the article was intended to hurt Escudero more, alleging an “unholy alliance” with the left, paying in a desperate attempt to undermine BongBong Marcos’ electoral bid.

“But the flux of anti-Martial Law and anti-Marcos sentiments in quad media was overwhelming and cannot possibly be seen as contrived, even if the RAs (Makabayan) and RJs (Sanlakas) conspired to launch a campaign against Bongbong Marcos.” Lopez declared. “No amount of fictitious allegations by Marcos’ paid hacks can hide this.”

Sanlakas and its member organization announced last week that it forged an alliance with Escudero on the basis of advancing demands which includes (1) regular employment; (2) social services such as education, public housing, universal health care, safe and efficient mass transportation; (3) land use and government support to farmers; (4) climate justice and protection to the environment; (5) pro-people budgeting and progressive taxation; (6) eradication of corruption and, (7) people’s sovereignty against foreign and corporate powers.

“But then again, there is still a speck of truth in the article though, and that is that an Escudero victory in the 2016 polls will stop on its tracks Bongbong’s bid to get back in Malacanang.”, Lopez concluded."

LOOK: Hardworking “Corn Man” inspires netizens, photos go viral

MANILA, Philippines - Handsome farmers like “carrot man”, “cabbage man” and “strawberry man” have definitely captured the attention of netizens for their undeniable charm and noble jobs, but this armless farmer has made his mark on social media for one incredible reason.

Hardworking “Corn Man” inspires netizens, photos go viral

Dubbed as the “corn man,” the hardworking farmer was photographed harvesting corn and doing several household tasks despite his difficult condition. His disability didn’t stop him from earning a living and his feet enabled him to accomplish things that we normally do using our hands. In one of the photos, “corn man” can be seen feeding an old lady who appears to be his mom using his mouth to hold the spoon.

Although it is not determined if “corn man” is really from the Philippines, his incredible act has inspired Filipino netizens and quickly became a highly discussed topic on social media. His photos shared by the Facebook page Tambayan ni Berto has amassed over 40,000 shares barely 12 hours after posting.

Moved by the touching images of “corn man,” several Pinoy netizens expressed their admiration for the industrious farmer.

“Ito dapat ang binibigyan ng pagpupugay at pinapasikat. Ito ang tunay na inspirasyon! Mapagwapo, Mapa average guy ka man basta marangal ang trabaho mo at nagbabanat ka talaga ng buto dapat kang hangaan. Hindi ka pabigat sa lipunan, kahit ang lipunan na ang nagiging pabigat sayo, tuloy lang ang laban!” commented netizen MJ Simacon Fastidio.

( He should be the one praised and made famous. He is a true inspiration. Whether you’re a handsome or an average guy, as long as you have a noble job and you work hard, you should be admired. You are not a burden to the society and even if the society becomes a burden to you, you still continue to fight.)

Andie Dela Cruz Tan added: “Si kuya cornman at carrotman pareho kong hinahangaan... Dahil sila dapat tularan natin... Mga tao na naghahanap buhay ng matino... Mga lalake na hindi batugan at may silbi sa lipunan.”

(I admire both “corn man” and “carrot man”. We should follow their examples. They are hardworking men who contribute to the society.) -Mini/The Summit Express

Coach Leigh Manson says,“On Thursday we will have the Ceres game, which is obviously the most challenging among the recent games we’ve had. We are not yet where we should be, but I think slowly, we are gaining momentum which is good. I think with Ceres next week we probably have to go higher (take it a notch higher). But when we play against each other, I think you’ll find that the teams lift themselves because there’ll be a lot of Azkals players, playing against each other, they know each other very well and nobody wants to lose that game.”

“GLOBAL FC fans are also encouraged to root for their team this Thursday, March 3. There is nothing like a stadium full of screaming fans”, Coach Manson adds.

GLOBAL FC vs. Ceres FC takes place on March 3, Thursday, 8:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Physician reveals reasons why UST OB-Gyn resident denied admission of pregnant woman

MANILA, Philippines - A physician has decided to address the controversy that has hounded a doctor at the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) hospital.

Dr. James Abraham Dacanay Malala, a graduate of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, has revealed several reasons as to why Dr. Ana Liezel Sahagun, an OB-Gyn resident of the said hospital, has denied the admission of a pregnant woman.

In a lengthy Facebook post that went viral this week, a certain Andrew Pelayo has accused Sahagun of refusing to admit his pregnant wife who was in labor because they couldn’t afford to pay the downpayment. According to the grieving father, his child tragically died inside his wife’s womb because of Pelayo’s actions.

Through a Facebook post, Malala explained why Sahagun was unfairly judged and wrongly accused by netizens.

Stating that UST hospital is not a government or charity hospital, Malala said that the hospital is on cash basis and requires payment for procedures and medications. However, he mentioned that the doctor’s professional fee and room service fee are free of charge in the said hospital.

Malala mentioned in his post that Sahagun is a resident physician of UST hospital who does not get professional fee and therefore, will not benefit from the patient’s money. The physician stressed that Sahagun was just following hospital protocols contrary to accusations that she is money-driven.

The physician also revealed that the parents were advised to transfer to a hospital that can cater to their needs based on their capacity to pay early on after the Sahagun confirmed that the mother and the baby were stable. Malala questioned as to why the couple still returned to UST hospital.

According to Malala, pregnancy or ongoing labor are considered a relatively non-emergency case when it comes to the financial aspect.

“The patient and her husband should have at least saved enough money for 9months (7 months if premature) in preparation for childbirth (responsible parenthood). I am also curious if they have PhilHealth because being responsible to one’s health should at least invest on a PhilHealth benefit (the least of what our government can do),” Malala wrote.

Malala believes that the country’s health care system may be blamed for such problems and that the people should have given the hospital or Sahagun the chance to explain their side first before making conclusions.

“Social media posts and access to healthcare have things in common. Both “a right” & also “a responsibility,” Malala ended his post.

Points to ponder after reading the recent viral FB post where a resident physician was judged and accused wrongly.1.)...

More than a smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and S7 defy previously held notions of mobile phone limitations, carrying the legacy of Samsung’s premium mobile experience with its industry-leading features.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is available in gold and black colors

IP68 Water and Dust Resistant

Exceedingly durable and designed to function even in unfavorable conditions, the Galaxy S7 edge and S7 are cap-less, water and dust resistant with an IP68 certification to boot, ensuring that it could survive getting wet in the rain or being accidentally dropped into the pool, withstanding being submerged in 1.5 meters of water for half an hour. It is also dust-tight, meaning it is safe from the ingress of solid foreign objects like sand, dust, or soil. With this, users can now be worry-free from spills, dust, or accidental drops in water.

DSLR-like Real Pixel camera

Setting new benchmarks for smartphone photography, Samsung outdid itself with the Galaxy S7 edge and S7’s Dual Pixel camera that uses a dual photodiode technology, originally used in professional DSLR cameras and has now been adopted for the very first time in smartphones. This technology enables even faster Auto Focus for crisp, strikingly clear pictures. Just as a person focuses on an object with both eyes, every pixel has two photodiodes to enable super-fast focus, while larger pixels and the brighter F1.7 lens allow bright photos to be taken even in low-light conditions. Added to this is a front camera with brighter F1.7 lens capable of turning the screen as a flash that allows selfies to be taken even in low-light conditions.

Complementing these, Samsung has taken its camera’s fun features up several notches. There is the Motion Panorama feature to capture action-packed and fun moments by bringing panoramic shots to life. Another Galaxy feature, Hyperlapse has been upgraded to make small time-compressed videos easier to create and share. Moreover, the well-loved Beauty Mode has been further enhanced with the Spotlight feature to capture faces with the effect of natural light.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and S7 have been designed to give users a worry-free experience, with a base memory of 32GB expandable up to 200GB so that precious memories on videos and photos no longer have to be deleted.

To support this amazing storage capacity, the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and S7 come with an even increased battery capacity. The Galaxy S7 sports a 3000mAH battery while the Galaxy S7 edge has a 3600 mAH battery. Both support Ultra Fast Charging (wired), as well as built-in wireless charging, with even faster charging speed than the previous Galaxy S6 smartphones.
Refined Design with Purpose

Building on Samsung’s re-imagined design philosophy introduced in the Galaxy S6 & S6 edge, the Galaxy S7 edge and S7’s elegant yet functional design features a streamlined body of glass and metal finish, with ergonomic curves to easily fit the user’s grip. The Galaxy S7 features a 5.1” Super AMOLED Quad HD display while the Galaxy S7 edge features a bigger 5.5” dual-edge display both purposefully designed to enhance the user’s viewing experience.

Samsung gives new meaning to functional design. The Galaxy S7 edge comes with various edge panels which can be selected by simply tapping an icon. By simply swiping the edge screen, different panels will appear. The App Edge panel pops out with the user’s favorite apps, the People Edge panel appears with the user’s favorite contacts, while the new Task Edge panel appears with the task apps and features the user usually utilizes. The larger Edge panel also contains more icons and displays more information.

Expanded Galaxy Ecosystem

Taking the smartphone experience to an entirely new dimension, the Galaxy S7 edge and S7 prove to be more than a phone as it allows users to explore more through the Samsung Galaxy Ecosystem by being a gateway to a network of devices and experiences.

The Samsung Gear VR, which is also compatible with the Galaxy S7 edge & S7, S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note5, is the first consumerized Virtual Reality headset making it accessible to more premium Samsung smartphone users. Compared to other VR headsets, the Gear VR is lightweight and offers more cushioning that provide comfort to users. It also has adjustable head straps to keep the headset secure and firm.

Movie buffs can also live in the world of their favorite movies right on their couch by browsing through the expansive movie selection of Netflix.

Aside from the Gear VR, Galaxy S7 and S7 edge can also seamlessly connect with the Gear S2 smartwatch, the wearable of choice of fitness and fashion enthusiasts alike, offering both connectivity and convenience for those who are challenged by the need to carry their smartphones everywhere.

“We are proud to reinforce our status as the leader and driver of mobile innovation by bringing Samsung’s flagship offering to the Philippine market. With the Galaxy S7 edge and S7, we enjoin more Filipinos to go beyond their limits and see their Samsung Galaxy smartphones as a hub to new and exciting experiences through our wearable devices, the Gear VR and the Gear S2,” said Digs Dimagiba, Business Unit Head of IT and Mobile Division of Samsung Electronics Philippines.
